Dreaming Out Loud
Chapter 21: Airplanes In The Sky

“Seriously, I am going to start punching people if we have to wait any longer to board this damn plane.” warned Jared. “Jared, will you stop whining.” Jenny demanded. The two had arrived at Nashville International Airport around 6:00 AM so they could get through security and hangout in the first class lounge until it was time to board their flight. “I’m not whining. I am complaining. This is such bullshit. I can’t believe that our flight got delayed for an hour. Also lets not forget that I was completely molested by that security cop. I know she just wanted to cop a feel. Can’t really blame her can I. WHEN IS THIS PLANE GOING TO BOARD!?”

Jared was irritable and exhausted, what with not getting much sleep the night before. “We will board the plane soon. My God, you get so cranky when you don’t get sleep. Why didn’t you got to bed at the same time as me?” asked Jenny who was flipping through one of the magazines she bought. “Because I wanted to play video games, okay.” “Alright, fine.” Jenny said and went back to her magazine. “Flight 316 to Seattle in now boarding.” announced the flight attendant over the speaker. “It’s about time. We’ve been waiting for over three hours.” Jared uttered as he and Jenny made their way to plane entrance.

When they both settled into their seats Jared’s attitude brightened and he was no longer acting like a grouch probably cause he realized that he could finally get some sleep. “You don’t mind if I take a nap do you?” asked Jared. “Go to sleep Jared. We can join the mile high club on the way back.” teased Jenny as she put on her ear phones and sat back in her chair. Jared just giggled and made himself comfortable as possible so he could catch some sleep.

When Jared woke from his nap he checked his watch and saw that four hours had passed. “Finally, you’re up. I put my finger up to your nose just to make sure that you were still breathing. Sleep good?” Jenny asked. “As good as someone can while on a plane. What have you been doing all this time?” Jared yawned and sat up straighter in his seat looking over at Jenny who was writing something in what appeared to be a notebook. “Listened to some music, I read a little, then I did some twittering. I tried to sleep but I couldn’t.”

Jared was curious as to what Jenny was writing about but didn’t want to be nosy however when he excused himself to the bathroom Jared snuck a peek and saw what looked liked song lyrics written on the page. “Wash your hands when you’re done.” reminded Jenny. “I always wash my hands.”  ’I wonder if Jenny has written any songs about me?’ Jared thought while he was in the bathroom. ‘I’m sure she has. I mean Caleb wrote fifty songs about Lily after they just met. Maybe I should give a try at writing lyrics. The last song I wrote was when I was 5 years old and that was about Jesus. It can’t be too hard. All you do is write about how you feel.’

Even though Jared thought of himself as an accomplished musician well beyond his years the one thing he wished he could do was write lyrics the way Caleb could. It baffled him how his middle brother could just come up with words for a song right on the spot and in the moment. “Don’t you hate it when you get pee all over your hands.” Jared said as he wiped his wet hands on Jenny’s face. “Eww!! You sick bastard!!” she yelled which caused the other passengers to look over in their direction. “Relax, its just water.” Jared admitted laughing and nuzzled his face in Jenny’s neck. He breathed in her scent which consisted of vanilla, watermelon, and a hint of coffee.

”I want to hear you sing.” Jared mentioned. “You’ve heard me sing.” “Not live and those fan videos on youtube don’t count.” “Well it probably won’t be for some time. This record is taking forever to get done. I really hope it turns out the way I envision it in my head.” Jenny confessed. “You sound like Caleb. He always has it in his head the way he wants the songs and albums to go but he is never happy in the end.” “Artists are both satisfied and dissatisfied with what they do.” added Jenny.

For the last two hours of the plane ride Jared and Jenny passed the time by playing a bunch of games. First was travel scrabble but Jared got upset when he thought that Jenny was making up words. “Jezbo? What the Hell is a Jezbo?” asked Jared. “It’s a combination of my name with the word lesbo. It’s what my female fans who have a crush on me call themselves. It’s totally a word.” Jenny argued. “Ah, not it isn’t. Remove it.” “No.” “You can’t just make up words. You have to use real words.” “Hey, I didn’t say anything when you used the word quoin.” “Because that is a real word.” “Really, you didn’t get that from an episode of Seinfeld?” “Quoin means to build an outer corner of a wall using blocks that are different, e.g. in size or texture, form the other blocks or bricks used to build the wall.” Jared explained rather defiantly. Jenny just gave him a blank stare. “Lets play Uno.” she suggested and got out the cards from her carry on bag.

When that got tiring after ten games and Jared being the constant sore loser Jenny put the cards away. “That’s it! I can’t play games with you. You are such a baby Jared.” stated Jenny. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. Please fasten your seatbelts as we prepare to land.” was what Jenny and Jared heard over the intercom. “Oh thank God. We’re here, finally.” grinned Jenny. Jared looked at his watch and said, “So we’re two hours behind Nashville time which would make it one o’clock here. Damn, we have a lot of free time on our hands until tomorrow when we meet up with your friend. What are we going to do until then?” Jared asked Jenny who was gathering her things.

”I think we should have sex.” she flat out said to him. Jared was silent. He wasn’t sure if he had heard right. “Wait, what did you say you wanted to do? he asked again. Jenny leaned closer to him and whispered, “I said, I think we should have sex. You do want to have sex, right? How long has it been for you?” ‘Too fucking long.’ he thought to himself. “Yes, of course I want to…I mean I want us to take the next step in our relationship but are you sure you want to?” “Yeah, I want to. I really want to. I know it was only a couple of days ago when I told that I was scared but I feel ready now.” confided Jenny. “Then I’m ready too. Well to be honest I’m always ready.” That made Jenny laugh and she kissed Jared on the lips which he reciprocated.
